PANews reported on December 12 that Byte Federal, a large Bitcoin ATM operator in the United States, revealed that a recent data breach may have leaked the personal information of 58,000 customers. According to documents submitted to the Maine Attorney General, hackers attempted to access customer information such as names, addresses, phone numbers, government-issued IDs, social security numbers, transaction activities, and user photos.
The security breach occurred on September 30 and was discovered on November 18. The attackers entered Byte Federal's network by exploiting a vulnerability in third-party software located in the popular developer platform GitLab. Byte Federal, which operates more than 1,200 Bitcoin ATMs in the United States, has reset all customer accounts and updated internal passwords to strengthen security measures.
