PANews reported on October 29 that according to CoinDesk, Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino said that the company respects international sanctions and works closely with law enforcement agencies, but admitted that it will ultimately obey the US authorities. Ardoino said: "If the United States wants to kill us, they can press a button and kill us anywhere. We will not fight the United States."

Ardoinohi also said the company is “doing its best” to combat illicit cryptocurrency use, but that USDT’s role in illicit finance is “minuscule” compared to the U.S. dollar. Referring to the role played by key Tether ally Howard Lutnick in Donald Trump’s campaign, he said the company “does not expect any political favors from anyone.”
