PANews reported on January 28 that Japanese investment company Metaplanet announced plans to raise 116 billion yen (about 745.5 million U.S. dollars) through the issuance of stock warrants to purchase more Bitcoin. The company aims to expand its Bitcoin holdings to 10,000 by the end of 2025, and currently holds about 1,761 BTC.

Metaplanet said it plans to issue 21 million zero-discount warrants, which, if completed, will be the largest Bitcoin-related financing in the history of the Asian equity market. The company said the continued depreciation of the yen and the new high in Bitcoin prices were the main reasons for this fundraising.

Previously, Metaplanet raised 9.5 billion yen through a bond issuance in December last year to purchase 619.7 bitcoins. As of now, the company is the 12th largest listed bitcoin holder in the world. Earlier this year, the company made clear plans to increase its bitcoin holdings to 21,000 by the end of 2026.
