PANews reported on December 16 that according to FOX 10, a man named Nuruhussein Hussein in Scottsdale, Arizona, recently pretended to be an Uber driver and stole cryptocurrency by obtaining the victim's mobile phone, suspected of multiple felonies. Police said that the man picked up passengers waiting for Uber outside the hotel, obtained the victim's mobile phone under the pretext of mobile phone failure or helping to debug the application, and transferred a total of about 223,000 to 300,000 US dollars in cryptocurrency from his Coinbase account.
One of the victims revealed that when asking for the return of the phone, Hussein had made threats, suggesting that he might be carrying a weapon. Hussein was arrested by police on December 11 and charged with multiple felonies including theft, fraud and money laundering. He is currently required to pay a $200,000 bail and will be subject to electronic monitoring after bail. Police believe that this case demonstrates highly sophisticated electronic fraud and prohibits Hussein from using the Internet to prevent the destruction of evidence.
