PANews reported on May 8th that, according to CoinDesk, Amazon's AWS has partnered with Coinbase and Stripe to launch Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Payments, an AI-powered agent payment infrastructure. This allows autonomous AI agents to use stablecoins to purchase online services such as APIs and web content in real time. Future versions will support larger transactions such as hotel bookings, travel bookings, and merchant payments.
The system is built on Coinbase's x402 protocol and Stripe's Privy wallet, initially focusing on micropayment scenarios. AWS states that this is infrastructure built for the "agent economy." Brian Foster, Coinbase's head of infrastructure growth, predicts that AI agents will soon surpass humans in transaction volume. Henri Stern, CEO of Stripe's Privy, stated that for agents to become meaningful economic participants, they need ways to hold and pay funds. Warner Bros. Discovery has begun testing the system, optimistic about its applications in areas such as live sports and entertainment content.
