PANews reported on November 5 that according to Bloomberg, the prediction platform Polymarket has been paying American social media KOLs to promote the platform's election prediction business. However, the platform is actually banned from providing this service to American users, including presidential election prediction bets. In September, Armand Saramout, senior growth director of Polymarket, sought sponsorship deals with American influencers. In recent weeks, several Instagram accounts with large numbers of followers have posted Polymarket sponsored content with the tags #PMPartner and #PolymarketPartner. A spokesperson for Polymarket confirmed the promotion to American influencers, but said its purpose was not to inspire transactions among American visitors, but to bring traffic and attention to its website.
An anonymous user who runs the U.S. Instagram account @trustfundterry said he has worked with Polymarket for years. The company often shared a Google Drive with him containing suggested content, which he regularly posted in exchange for fees. He said Polymarket never told him that the content should be targeted at non-U.S. audiences, nor did it ask him to mention that transactions should not be conducted in the United States. Such disclaimers were rarely included in sponsored content posts posted by other accounts.
