PANews reported on April 12 that according to News.bitcoin, investigators from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) helped a cryptocurrency scam victim in Hamilton County recover $35,000.
The funds recovered this time stem from a cryptocurrency scam that happened to a senior citizen in Delhi Township in August 2024. Authorities detailed: "A message popped up on a 73-year-old Delhi Township woman's laptop indicating that the device had been hacked. The woman called a number she thought was a Microsoft hotline and spoke with a scammer. The scammer instructed her to withdraw cash and convert it to Bitcoin to repair her computer. Ultimately, the victim transferred $41,750 in multiple installments through a Bitcoin ATM."
