PANews reported on January 27 that Vitalik.eth tweeted that the trust settings of the Groth16 algorithm should be phased out faster, and that the separate trust settings for each application are no longer appropriate in the 2020s, and at least a universal setting should be adopted, ideally without any setting. He stressed that this requires major improvements in infrastructure construction and standardization of new SNARK algorithms, and cited Alin Tomescu's view that the trust settings of Groth16 are very cumbersome and require a deep understanding of alternatives such as PLONK.
