PANews reported on May 11th that, according to CoinDesk, Solana's core development team, Anza, announced that a major consensus mechanism upgrade, codenamed Alpenglow, has been launched on the community testnet. Validators can switch from the current Proof-of-Stake+Proof-of-History+TowerBFT architecture to the new consensus framework in the test cluster. This upgrade aims to significantly shorten transaction final confirmation time and improve network response efficiency by refactoring the validator communication and block confirmation process. This test marks that validators can now perform the "Alpenswitch" migration operation in a real environment. Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko previously stated that if the testing goes smoothly, Alpenglow is expected to be deployed to the mainnet as early as next quarter.
