PANews reported on April 1 that according to The Block, Miller Whitehouse-Levine, a long-time cryptocurrency supporter, is starting his next venture in Washington, DC - the Solana Policy Institute, to educate legislators and regulators to think "beyond Bitcoin". The nonpartisan nonprofit organization officially debuted on Monday at a time when digital assets are attracting the attention of legislators and related legislation is advancing rapidly (covering everything from stablecoins to market structure). Whitehouse-Levine, who previously led the DeFi Education Fund lobbying group, said there is still a lot of work to be done in Washington to educate about cryptocurrencies.
The institute will focus on influencing the drafting of stablecoin and market structure bills, as well as influencing the newly formed cryptocurrency working group of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SSEC) and the new leadership of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). Whitehouse-Levine said the goal of the Solana Policy Institute will be to support technology-neutral policies to create a "level playing field." Whitehouse-Levine said he is currently the only staff member at the institute, but plans to hire more people. He declined to say who specifically is funding the organization. The Solana Foundation said it is an independent and different organization.
