PANews reported on April 17 that according to Reuters, two senior officials in Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan, said that the country has made millions of dollars in profits by investing in cryptocurrencies in recent years and has used part of the profits to pay two years of government employees' salaries.

According to Ujjwal Deep Dahal, CEO of Bhutan's sovereign wealth fund Druk Holding and Investments, Bhutan will explore ways to use hydropower to mine and utilize green cryptocurrencies in the future, and will eventually stop using fossil fuels to mine digital currencies. The fund currently controls Bhutan's only power generation company and began adding cryptocurrencies to its investment portfolio in 2019.
