PANews reported on April 22 that according to the Anti-Tariff Declaration website, many well-known economists, including two Nobel Prize winners in economics, jointly issued a statement opposing the large-scale unilateral tariff increase measures implemented by the Trump administration through executive orders since taking office in 2025. The statement criticized the policy for repeating the protectionist mistakes of the 1930 Smoot-Hawley Act, distorting the market, harming consumer interests, and violating the principles of free trade and constitutionalism. The statement called for a return to the founding values of "peace, commerce and honest friendship". At present, the "Anti-Tariff Declaration" has been co-signed by more than 1,368 academics and policymakers.
