PANews reported on March 28 that the Financial Times reported that the European Union will impose the minimum fine on Apple and Facebook owner Meta under its Digital Markets Act next week, as the EU tries to avoid escalating tensions with US President Trump. According to people familiar with the matter, Apple is expected to be fined and ordered to revise its App Store rules. Meta will also be fined and required to change its "pay or agree" model, which forces users to either agree to data tracking or pay a subscription fee for an ad-free experience for its products. Under antitrust laws, companies can face fines of up to 10% of their global turnover, which could result in both companies facing billions of dollars in fines. But three officials said the European Commission is aiming for fines far below this threshold because the regulations are relatively new and could be challenged in court.
