PANews reported on November 21 that according to Bloomberg, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman's salary last year was US$76,001, slightly higher than the US$73,546 in 2022. This salary is based on the financial disclosures submitted by US non-profit organizations to the tax authorities each year. Altman previously stated that his income was only "at a level that covers minimum health insurance" and repeatedly stated that he does not hold shares in OpenAI. But OpenAI is reportedly exploring the transformation into a for-profit enterprise and may provide Altman with equity.

Financial documents show that the OpenAI nonprofit received $5 million in public donations in 2023 and had a net asset of $21 million at the end of the year, while OpenAI's for-profit entity raised $6.6 billion last year. The report also disclosed compensation data for other executives, including $322,201 for former chief scientist Ilya Sutskever and $3,720 for Emmett Shear, who briefly served as interim CEO.

In addition, OpenAI expanded its charitable projects last year to support the democratization of AI rule-making, and provided funding to institutions such as Harvard University and the University of Michigan to assist in research on economic opportunities in AI.
